“Businesses cannot be successful when the society around them fails.”

                                                                                                                                          Responsible Business Summit, May 2013, London.

On March 18, 2019, regional akimat of Kyzylorda region, chaired by akim of the region Mr. Kosherbayev K.E. , held a meeting for representatives of the business structure of the region to discuss charitable assistance to needy families in the region. He recalled the tragic incident that occurred in Astana and took away the lives of five young girls from a low-income family. He noted that the tragedy could not have happened if such families had been under the patronage.

Akim noted that the administration of the akimat conducted research work in the region to identify people who need aid, and developed its plan for providing assistance. He said that the Akimat will not be able to manage this task independently and urged entrepreneurs to take an active part in this program. Mr. Kusherbayev K.E. also mentioned the example of the fact that the Kazakhs historically did not leave people in trouble and are always ready to give a helping hand. For example, when the sister-in-law became a widow, her husband’s relatives did not let her or the children go, but together they supported them.

The Akimat suggested that each company take 3 needy families in Kyzylorda, to whom they can offer support.

After discussing the issue with the management of the company and receiving their support, we held a meeting with three big families, which were defined to be under our patronage by the administration of the Kyzylorda region, in order to determine their needs.

Our wards:

  1. Boltaeva Botagoz – mother of 6 children: 17 years old girl, 16 years old boy, 10 years old boy and girls: 6, 5 and 2 years old. Address: st. Ydyrysova 86 (rent) – the place has two small rooms: a hallway, it is also a kitchen and one small room where the whole family sleeps.
  2. Boltaeva Meruert – mother of 4 children: 14 years old girl, and boys: 7, 5 and 3 years old. Address: st. Ge Bon U 36 (rent) – a rented 2 roomed housing.
  3. Boranbayeva Olesya – mother of 4 children, one child is disabled: 13 years old boy, and girls: 10, 6 and 5 years old. Address: Zhibek Zholy 2/1 – it is an old private house that she inherited from her mother, 2 rooms and an entrance hall.

As a result of the meeting, the following assistance program was defined and agreed with the management of the company:

  1. Purchase of the following household appliances for each family:

          a. Botagoz – a stove;

          b. Meruert – a fridge;

          c. Olesya – a TV set.

     2. Purchase of school uniform and accessories before September 1;

     3. Purchase of winter outerwear for children on the eve of Independence Day;

     4. Food basket on the eve of the New Year.

On June 27 the household appliances listed in the program were purchased and delivered to families. The kids were the ones who enjoyed the gifts the most. In the family where we brought the refrigerator, the children did not understand what is this appliance and what is it needed for. And the children in the family, which got the TV set, practically danced with joy. In the family, which received a stove, it turned out that our gift to this family is the second good news – the first good news was that the family received a housing from akimat!

3 employees from our company and one from our partner company “Ordastroiservice” volunteered to implement the first part of the approved assistance program. They are: Dinara Nazarova, accountant, Makhambet Erbol, a handyman and Meiramkul Khojashova, PR manager, as well as Timur Shadiev, the driver of “Ordastroyservice”. We asked one of the volunteers Dinara, who helped us to select and purchase the goods to share her impressions from the project and she happily did so: “For me personally it is very pleasing to realize that I work in a company with a solid socially responsible position. I believe I am fortunate because this is not the first time when I personally take part in such projects. It is a great pleasure to witness the happy faces of people and understand that you and your company are the reasons for their happiness. I am proud that our company is not indifferent to the needs of underprivileged people and that it takes possible efforts to improve the communicty in which it operates”.
