ENVIRONMENT
KAZPETROL GROUP LLP is guided by the highest environmental standards. Rational use of natural resources and maintaining a favorable environmental situation in the Kyzylorda region are the main priorities of the Company.
The strategic goal of KAZPETROL GROUP LLP is to consistently reduce the technogenic load on the environment and climate through the introduction of the best available technologies and equipment, as well as by increasing the level of process control automation.
ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY PROGRAM
The main tool for implementing the Company's environmental policy is the Environmental Safety Program of KAZPETROL GROUP LLP, which was developed on the basis of the requirements of the Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as environmental risk assessment and includes a large number of measures aimed at reducing the negative impact of the Company's production activities on the environment. Measures are formed into subprograms according to the types of environmental impacts. Planning of activities is carried out within the perimeter of three years, targets are set annually.
EVALUATION AND MONITORING
In accordance with the legislative requirements, KAZPETROL GROUP LLP assesses and monitors the impact of production activities on the environment at all stages of the facility life cycle. The Company applies the precautionary principle within the framework of a functioning risk management system in the implementation of environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedures and in planning activities of the Environmental Safety Program.
EIA works are carried out at the design stage and in accordance with the requirements of the Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The results of the assessment are an integral part of the project documentation and are subsequently used in environmental monitoring.
During the EIA, the initial characteristics of the area and ecosystems are studied, the key factors and types of impact of the object on the components of the environment are determined, methods are determined to prevent or mitigate the negative impact of production. Mandatory holding of public hearings and studying the opinion of local residents allows discussing the socio-economic consequences and agreeing on contentious issues.
At the stage of industrial activities that have an impact on the environment, industrial environmental control (IEC) is carried out on an ongoing basis. The IEC includes comprehensive measures for the inventory of pollutant emissions, discharges and waste with sampling, which are analyzed by independent laboratories. Experimental work is carried out in addition to observations. Environmental monitoring and IEC are carried out by independent research and scientific organizations, which are selected on a tender basis built on their professional experience.
PURE WATER
The principle of KAZPETROL GROUP LLP in the field of environmental protection contains obligations for the rational use of natural resources, including water. Priority areas for action include:
• Minimization of the consequences of production activity, including the reduction of water withdrawal from natural sources;
• Reducing the dependence of industries on possible external adverse factors, including natural ones (droughts, shallowing of surface water bodies, pollution of underground sources, and others).
Within the framework of the Environmental Safety Program, measures for the rational use of water resources are combined into the Clean Waters subprogram. The main approach of KAZPETROL GROUP LLP to solving the problem of sustainable water use is the use of recycling and re-water supply systems, increasing wastewater treatment and reducing production water losses. The produced water is reused to maintain reservoir pressure. New production facilities are required to be equipped with recycling systems and treatment facilities. To improve the water use system, the Company commissioned wastewater treatment facilities.
PRODUCTION WATER AND RAIN WATER MANAGEMENT IN OIL PRODUCTION
All water produced along with oil is cleaned and pumped into the formation pressure maintenance system (FPM) or into the absorbing subsoil horizons. The quality of commercial water treatment is regulated by the Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
FRESH AIR
Reducing emissions of pollutants from industrial activities into the atmosphere is a priority area of the Environmental Safety Program activities, united in the "Clean Air" subprogram. Key activities include:
• Replacement or modernization of production equipment;
• Application of systems for capturing and cleaning emissions;
• Increasing the level of utilization of associated petroleum gas;
• Measures to modernize flare systems, including ensuring soot-free combustion.
WASTE MANAGEMENT APPROACH
The main methods of industrial waste management in KAZPETROL GROUP LLP include the following actions:
• Prevention of excess accumulation of low-hazardous waste at facilities;
• Timely disposal of waste;
• Application of modern technologies and complex methods of processing, allowing to involve waste in the production cycle.
In order to prevent the accumulation of waste: the volume of waste generation should correspond to the volume of their disposal. An assessment of the fulfillment of obligations is carried out annually as part of the preparation of a report on the implementation of the environmental safety program to the Board of Directors.
WASTE GENERATION AND MANAGEMENT
Most of the waste is drill cuttings and oily liquids that are generated during the drilling and operation of wells. The volume of their formation depends on the volume of drilling and repair work. All oily waste is recycled.
The bulk of the waste is solid domestic waste (SDW) generated during the life of the Company.
Works on the disposal of all waste are carried out by contractors that have their own recycling technologies. After processing, an inert material is obtained from the waste, which is used in the construction of roads, well pads and in land reclamation.
QUALITY CONTROL OF CONTRACTORS' WORKS
KAZPETROL GROUP LLP expands interaction with contractors in order to improve the quality of waste disposal work, monitors the work performed under the concluded contracts: waste management methods, the state of production control systems, and the availability of sufficient resources to fulfill obligations under contracts are checked.
